Entrepreneurs from Hobart, Bellerive, Launceston and Burnie will share in a total of almost $1 million in Government funding to help Tasmanian businesses across the State to grow their small business ventures.

The Business Incubator and Accelerator Pilot Program taps the expertise of existing businesses and channels it to new and emerging businesses in key industries across Tasmania.

The successful first round of the pilot program began in 2022 and has seen advice and support given to more than 60 businesses, along with the creation of six new jobs to date.

Four successful applicants will receive funding to deliver incubator and accelerator programs through round two of the program:

  1. Optimum Standard (Aus) Pty Ltd for an agritourism accelerator;
  2. illuminate Education Australia Pty Ltd for its Shift Lab social enterprise program;
  3. Braddon Business Centre Inc for a generalist accelerator program; and
  4. Enterprize Tasmania Ltd for its Emerging Technology Adoption Program.

Successful recipients from round one, Seedlab Tasmania, currently has a collaboration with the Salamanca Market to give its program participants the opportunity to trade at the market to test and promote their products.

Seedlab CEO and co-founder, Hazel MacTavish-West, said the Salamanca Market opportunity gives early-stage local businesses the chance to market test at the State’s number one tourist attraction.

“The continued support for Seedlab Tasmania from the Government has meant a world of difference to scores of Tasmanian founders of early stage businesses, and some more advanced, who produce a diverse range of consumer products,” Dr MacTavish-West said.

“We are helping to build their confidence, their systems and processes, and helping put them onto a sturdier path towards business resilience, profitability and sustainability.”
