A country Logies? The NSW govt hopes so

Television's night of nights could be heading to Tamworth next year, if the NSW government gets its way.

Tourism Minister Adam Marshall has submitted a proposal to move the TV Week Logie Awards from its traditional venue of Melbourne to regional NSW.

"We're proposing to take the glitz and glamour of the Logies beyond the fringes of the city and out to Tamworth in 2018 and then potentially Dubbo and Albury in 2019 and 2020," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Mr Marshall acknowledged on 2GB that Logies organisers may use the offer as "leverage" to get a better deal in Victoria.

But he said that if they were willing to move the event to NSW, and wanted some government investment, then it would have to be held in a regional location.

"If you want to come to Sydney that's fine, but given the negligible impact of it, any government investment package is going to be tied to regional locations," he said.
