Car in QLD dam belongs to Tasmanian man
Police are currently trying to establish if a car retrieved from a Queensland dam with human remains found inside is connected to Missing Tasmanian man, Stuart Raymond Gatehouse.
Mr Gatehouse, who would now be 58 years of age, was last seen in 2004.
According to the missing person register, he was last seen travelling from Kenilworth to Gympie, but never arrived.
Queensland police were called to the Borumba dam near Imbil after a member of public who was using a depth sounder picked up the large object.
The car found was a red 1986 Holden Commodore with Tasmanian Number plates CG3270.
Detective Inspector David Drinnen has confirmed the car belongs to Mr Gatehouse.
"However at this stage, it's far too early in the investigation to be making any speculation as to who the deceased person that was located in that vehicle — the skeletal remains — who that person may be," he said.
Investigations continue today with the state homicide squad assisting Queensland Police.
