Congratulations to Double Input for taking out Tassie’s Got Talent for 2016. The young and upcoming band members Josh, Ben, Jack and Zeno went head to head with Everburn and Andrew Budgen in our top three playoff at the Hobart Race Village.
Double Input have been together for four years after forming the group in high school. They have been performing at private functions and more recently pubs around Hobart playing a variety of music from rock and punk through to covers and a bit of old school.
Zeno Barwick - Drummer
I am part of a very musical family. I grew up in a house that always had guitars, keyboards and a drum kit set up in the shed. At a very young age I learnt to play a straight eight beat, barely able to reach the pedals on the drum kit. Not long after, I started adding fills and developing different patterns. I was soon jamming with other musicians. A lack of drummers in high school allowed me to play in the school band and eventually into Double Input where my drumming skills really took off. Since then I've played with various school, community and gigging bands besides Double Input and can play a wide range of styles, rock and metal being my favourites. Double Input is a working rock band with regular pub gigs in Hobart and Launceston and frequent gigs for private functions and corporate events, most notably their recent 7HOFM talent competition win which saw the boys play a set at the Sydney to Hobart Yacht club pavilion with a future gig guarantee. More recently I have accompanied vocalists on the keyboard and guitar and am quickly becoming proficient in both instruments. I am now looking at potential careers in the music industry.
Jack Rowe - Lead Guitarist
I am 18 years old. I had a fascination with toy guitars at a very young age. I got my first acoustic guitar when I was 8 and started learning how to play it not long afterwards. I played music throughout my primary school. In grade 7 at Kingston High School I got my first electric guitar. I formed my band in grade 8 called Double Input. I love playing in this band, especially now that we play in pubs around Hobart. Some of my favourite bands are Def Leppard, The Angels, Green Day and Foo Fighters. Outside of music, I always had a strong interest in woodwork. At College, I got an apprenticeship as a carpenter which I have been doing for the last 2 years. My ambitions for the future of the band are to create and record our own album.
Josh Glancy – Lead Vocals and Rhythm Guitarist
I first started getting into music once I hit high school, before then, I barely knew how to play guitar and I'd only ever sung in the school choir at Blackmans Bay Primary. Kingston High School is where I really began to take music more seriously, learning basic guitar in grade 7, and building on that foundation as Double Input came together towards the end of grade 8. We had plenty of support through High school, and as my confidence as a singer grew, I found it more and more easier to perform at school assembly's and the private and public functions we were lucky enough to play at. Music is a huge part of my life, I don't go a day without singing in the car or quietly at work. I love playing in the band more than anything, and the recent gigs we have been playing, including at pubs and, of course, in the 7HOFM Tassie's Got Talent have been amazing fun!
Benjamin Glancy – Bass and Vocals
I have always loved music, especially rock music which has been in my life for as long as I can remember. This is because of my father’s role as the front man of The Pumpkin Heads, one of the premier cover bands in Hobart over the past 15 or so years. Only recently have I taken a greater liking to punk and punk rock due to its loud, fast paced nature which has made gigs more enjoyable than ever before. I first picked up the bass guitar in grade six but only started playing seriously in grade eight when the band was formed. My favourite bands include Green Day, The Living End and The Foo Fighters, all of which I will have seen live by May this year. Being part of Double Input has opened up so many opportunities for us as a group and I am so incredibly grateful of everyone that gave us a chance when we were first formed. I hope that Double Input becomes one of the go-to cover bands in Southern Tasmania and is recognised as a professional, entertaining group that always delivers. As well as being a member of Double Input, I spend a lot of time playing sport. I play AFL football with the DOSA Roosters and row with Kingston Beach Surf Lifesaving Club, where I also volunteer as a lifeguard at Kingston Beach.
