It’s been a showdown of cost of living policies in Tasmania’s election campaign today.
Dean Winter’s released an undertaking to cap power price rises, freeze rego costs and make it half price for apprentices, and a $100 voucher for kids sport.
The Labor leader’s also vowing to introduce monthly billing for such items as power and vehicle registration.
“Son monthly billing is an option that Tasmanian families tell me they really want and when it comes to bills like their car registration they simply don’t have that option, so we want to ensure they’ve got the option.”
While the Liberals have released its plan to create a state owned insurance entity to counteract the exorbitant premium rises for households and businesses caused by interstate disasters.
Tasmania’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Michael Bailey has commended the party for the idea because current market prices are such a huge imposition.
“Too many businesses in Tasmania are under insuring or not insuring at all, they just can’t afford it, the price of insurance has gone through the roof, that’s what has been listed in the top one or two issues that businesses tell us through our surveys.”
