Late night loos trialled in Salamanca
The City of Hobart is trialling extended operating hours of its Salamanca Square public toilets on Friday and Saturday nights.
The trial will be until 24 February 2018 and involves the toilets opening until 3am on both Friday and Saturday nights. A security guard will be onsite and extra cleaning will be undertaken throughout the evening.
The Lord Mayor of Hobart, Alderman Sue Hickey said that the four month trial is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to improve safety and amenity in public places.
“The trial of the extended hours will also allow for the collection of usage data and feedback from customers on the worth of a late-night opening. This will be very helpful in developing an appropriate ongoing late night toilet provision plan for Council to consider in the future,” said the Lord Mayor.
Chairman of the Council’s Community Culture and Events Committee, Alderman Bill Harvey said the Council had consulted with stakeholders in the Sullivan’s Cove precinct before coming to the decision to trail an extension of hours.
