Aussie Cinema Has Its Biggest Weekend Since February 2020
Cinema is back! Aussie cinemas have recorded the biggest weekend in admissions since February last year, before COVID lockdown restrictions in 2020.
Val Morgan reports 897,000 Australians visited cinemas this past weekend (25-28 March 2021) which is the highest since the start of 2020.
With the April school holidays approaching, the trend is looking to stay strong. Tom & Jerry: The Movie, The Courier, The Father, and Nobody, are due for a release on Thursday, April 1st, 2021.
The two big box office hits on the weekend adding to the success of cinema attendance were Godzilla vs Kong, which received 413,000 admissions, and Peter Rabbit 2 which achieved 176,000 admissions.
Managing director of Val Morgan, Guy Burbidge said:
“These early results have far exceeded our forecasts and signals that returning cinema audiences are craving the immersion and escape that only the cinema experience provides,”
"We anticipate that national admissions will continue to gain momentum and exceed forecasts throughout 2021 with an 18-month content slate crammed into just nine months.”
The most anticipated movies coming to cinemas soon include Mortal Combat, In the Heights, Cruella, Black Widow, Fast & Furious 9, Top Gun: Maverick, Dune, No Time to Die and A Quiet Place II. What are you most excited about? Have your say below!
