Cow carnage on Bass Highway
Motorists on the Bass Highway are being warned to take extra care in the Elizabeth Town area after cars and a truck hit stampeding cattle overnight.
Several animals were killed but no people were injured in the collisions near the Ashgrove Cheese farm.
Ashgrove Chairman Paul Bennett braved wet conditions to join two policemen in rounding up the strays, apparently from a neighbouring beef cattle property.
He's told Tasmania Talks it could have been a lot worse.
"I think 10 were killed in the end over three separate incidents over a 10-kilometre stretch of the highway," he said.
"The traffic got behind the cattle and they sort of stampeded towards Devonport."
