E-scooter operator Beam is testing out new technology on the streets of Hobart.
Our city will be the first in the nation to experience the new Pedestrian Shield.
The program uses artificial intelligence to detect the surface that a scooter is being ridden on, allowing it to adjust to the relevant speed limit. Footpaths are limited to 15 km/hr, with roads and cycle paths limited to 25 km/hr.

Beam is advocating for the technology to be made a requirement for all shared micromobility operators when the City of Hobart issues the new licence permit, expected by August.
