The Tasmanian Government has tabled in State Parliament the final report of the Commission of Inquiry into the Tasmanian Government’s Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in Institutional Settings.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff stressed that the report is published in full except for parts the Commission itself asked to be omitted.

The Premier says he’s committed to closing the troubled Ashley Youth Detention Centre as soon as possible while new therapeutic centres are established in the north and south.

“Today I announce that the government has identified Pontville in the state’s south as the preferred site for the new youth detention centre. The new facility will deliver a therapeutic and trauma-informed service model that focuses on improving outcomes for young people”.

Attorney-General Elise Archer has told Parliament there’ll be more support on offer for victim-survivors participating in criminal proceedings against their abusers.
