Devonport Farewell For Constable Keith Smith

A funeral in Devonport’s being held for Constable Keith Smith who was killed in the line of duty at a North Motten property last week.

He’d served on Tasmania’s Police force for 25 years.

Marcus Todman spoke at Constable Smith’s service about his friend of around 40 years.

“He was the type of mate that always had your back, never loud about it, never looking for credit, he was just there, you didn’t have to ask, if something went wrong Keith was the first to show up and the last to leave.”

Police Commissioner Donna Adams told the gathering, members of the community often made contact about his outstanding work as a police officer in various situations.

“Frequently wrote to express their appreciation, recognising his professionalism and composure in difficult circumstances, his compassion and depth of understanding, his empathy.”

Commander Stuart Wilkinson delivered the ode.

“You have fought the good fight, life’s race has been run and peace your reward for eternity begun and we that are left shall never forget, rest in peace friend and colleague for the sun has now set.”
