Months of hard work and planning are ready to pay off this weekend as the mountain bike world turns its eyes to Tasmania.

For the first time, the Red Bull Hardline event will be held outside of the UK, at Maydena Bike Park in the Upper Derwent Valley.

In doing so, a global audience of 40 million viewers is expected to turn its gaze on the purpose-built Tasmanian venue, which is also expected to attract thousands of visitors keen to experience what’s described as the toughest mountain bike event in the world.

Maydena Bike Park managing director Simon French told the Mercury Hardline was created “to take things to the very limit of what is possible on a bike”.

“It’s massive and is far and away the biggest mountain bike event ever held in Australia.” he said.

“There’s an amazing list of athletes from all around the world, both male and female, who are the cream of crop in downhill and freeride.

“The design is groundbreaking, and is definitely the most progressive and extreme downhill racecourse in the Southern Hemisphere, and one of the most extreme in the world.”
