Launceston rider Hamish McKenzie has clinched Australia’s second silver at the 2022 UCI World Road Championships in Wollongong.

The Tassie teen McKenzie held first place in the Junior Men’s Individual Time Trial all day with his ride of 35.18.45.

But Great Britain’s Joshua Tarling turned in a 34.59.26 to take gold and the World Championship win.

McKenzie was happy with his performance.

“If somebody said I was going to be coming second, I really wouldn’t have believed them, so I couldn’t be more happy,” he said.

Third place went to Germany’s Emil Herzog, who was 33.45 behind Tarling.

Other Aussies in the field, Cameron Rogers and William Eaves, finished 14th and 18th respectively.
