One part of the Tasmanian Government’s public sector workforce seems on a happier footing with a $2,000 pandemic bonus payment, pro rata, for health workers agreed to.

Premier and Health Minister Jeremy Rockliff confirming in Parliament it has been registered with the Tasmanian Industrial Commission.

“This will support our nurses, our midwives, our doctors, pharmacists, allied health professionals, paramedics, orderlies, ward clerks, food services, laboratory staff, cleaners and Covid vaccination and testing clinic workforce who have all worked so hard during this pandemic.”

Nursing and Midwifery Federation state secretary Emily Shepherd is heralding the payment as clearing the air for discussions on tackling onerous workloads.

“A recognition of our members hard work during the pandemic, but also means an opportunity to sit down and commence strategic workforce recruitment and retention work which is really where our members’ key concerns and priorities still lie.”
