Tasmania’s firefighting agencies are urging Tasmanians to stay alert for bushfires, with high fire danger ratings forecast in much of the state over the Australia Day long weekend.
We’re being told to remain vigilant, as fuel loads across the state are now fully cured.
High fire danger ratings are forecast in the King and Furneaux Islands, Central North, North East, East Coast, Midlands, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, Central Plateau and Western districts over the coming days.
Emergency Services Minister Felix Ellis says the upcoming long weekend is a timely reminder that campfire restrictions are also in place for many of Tasmania’s national parks and reserves until further notice.
Mr Ellis says while the Australia Day weekend is a great chance to spend time with family and friends, it’s not a time to be complacent about the threat of bushfires.
