Hobart’s new LimeBikes will be installed with speed limiters, and subject to geofenced “No Ride” and “Slow Speed” zones, when they hit the streets next week.
The sustainable e-bike rentals are hoped to fill the gap left by the exit of e-scooter operator Beam, after Hobart City Councillors voted to transition to a new micromobility scheme. The council believes e-bikes are better suited to the city’s streets and cycling network.
Lime’s Head of Asia Pacific Will Peters is excited to expand into Tasmania, promising to be a responsible, reliable and positive addition to the city.
“Promoting safe riding and responsible parking is at the heart of how Lime operates,” he said. “We’ll be using in‑app riding tutorials and reminders, clear parking guidance, and designated parking bays along key CBD streets, including Macquarie, Harrington, Argyle, Bathurst and Melville Streets, together with capped speed in line with local restrictions and safety guidance.”
The bikes will become available in Hobart from Wednesday September 2nd.
