Iron basher jailed
A Sandy Bay man who bashed his on-again-off-again friend with an antique press iron in August last year is behind bars.
Serial drunkard Stephen John Gleeson was initially charged with attempted murder but that was downgraded to a bodily harm charge over the attack on Christopher Goss.
The Supreme Court heard Gleeson, who was on bail at the time for a previous assault on Mr Goss, bludgeoned him with the iron while he was lying face down.
The 56 year old pleaded guilty and will have to serve at least two years nine months of a five-and-a-half-year sentence.
