Burnie addiction retreat progresses
Opponents to City Mission's planned Serenity House addiction treatment retreat for Burnie have yet to indicate if they'll appeal the city council's permit approval with the Planning Tribunal.
A large home on the 12 acre West Mooreville Road site will be renovated and extended.
Burnie Mayor Steve Kons told Tasmania Talks, the council is bound by the Planning Scheme rules.
"Planning matters are dealt with separately to our role as councillors, we have to basically prescribe the rules as they are according to the Planning Scheme and the Planning Scheme more or less said that activity in that area which was basically an extension of a residential use did comply."
The council was presented with a more than 100 signature petition against the project.
