New border restrictions on travellers from Brisbane

Tasmania is imposing new border restrictions on people entering from the Sunshine State's capital.

The Queensland Government has announced a snap three-day lockdown of Greater Brisbane, after a hotel quarantine cleaner test positive for the new more infections strain of COVID-19, which is currently ravaging the UK.

Tasmanian Public Health officials have declared 5 council areas 'high risk': Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Redlands, Ipswich and Logan. 

From today, any traveller arriving here who's been in any of those locations since January 2 will go into mandatory quarantine for 14 days.

"If they do not have a suitable premises they will be placed into a Government quarantine hotel," Premier Peter Gutwein said in a statement.

Those who have already arrived in the island state and were in those hotspots are being told to isolate and contact the Tasmanian Public Health Hotline to arrange a test.
