Tas tracing done from Brisbane hotel cluster

Coronavirus latest news2

All Tasmanian arrivals who completed their international quarantine at Brisbane's Grand Chancellor Hotel since December 30 have been tracked down by state health authorities.

14 travellers are in isolation and being tested again for coronavirus, despite already returning negative results when they left Queensland, as well as showing no symptoms.

“At this stage there is no information to indicate any of the people have posed a COVID-19 risk to the community,” Deputy State Controller Scott Tilyard said.

“However as a precautionary measure, due to a number of COVID cases in the hotel that was used in Brisbane, Tasmania is being extra cautious. Tasmania is putting a further quarantine period process in place for these travellers and they will be tested and monitored during this period."

10 of them are crew members from Incat's new Bucco Reef catamaran which is due to depart for the Caribbean on Thursday - they'll quarantine on the vessel.

The Brisbane CBD hotel was evacuated on Wednesday after a spread of the UK COVID variant on its seventh floor, forcing all international arrivals there into another 14 days at a different facility.
