UTAS now 303rd best globally

The University of Tasmania has improved its place in the latest global Quacquarelli Symonds rankings rising to equal 303rd, from 308 the previous year year.

Other regional universities which did better were Wollongong coming in at 193, Uni of Newcastle at 197, Deakin in Geelong 283 and Griffith University on the Gold Coast placing equal 290th.

The regional institutions UTAS did beat include James Cook University in Townsville at 424, Charles Darwin in the Northern Territory (701 to 750), the University of Canberra equal 436th, and even outperformed some in much larger capital cities such as Flinders University in Adelaide at 407.

Australia's highest ranking goes to the Australian National University in Canberra which placed 27th in the world, followed by the University of Melbourne at 37 and the University of Sydney at 38.
