Power price rise petition
A petition demanding Tasmania's power price rise be capped at 2.5% is being circulated by the opposition.
Nearly 12% is the increase approved for next financial year, largely as a result of wholesale electricity costs zooming up by 37%.
This for a state more than 100% self-sufficient with clean renewable power generation, the basis of Labor's argument Tasmania should have delinked from the national energy market as the Liberals had vowed to do back in 2018.
The government has changed its position on the grounds of the Marinus link and the state's battery of the nation ambition being too important for job creation and the economy to jeopardise.
