Old duo arrested on drug offences

An elderly pair from Hobart's eastern shore has been charged with drug trafficking.

A 78-year-old man and 58-year-old woman, both from Rokeby, are set to face the Hobart Magistrates Court on August 19.

The were allegedly found with 78 individually packaged bags of ice, to be sold as street deals, as well as a larger stash of 3.5 grams of the same drug (methamphetamine).

Police also seized $13,000 dollars in cash and a small about of marijuana during yesterday's arrest.

It follows a man being arrested twice in one week with 20 grams of cocaine on the first occasion, and more cocaine and $10,000 cash on the second occasion.

The 28-year-old from Bridgewater is due to face court on August 12.

“Individuals who seek to profit from the sale of illicit substances in our community can expect police attention. These arrests send a clear message that not only will we target syndicates responsible for the importation and distribution of drugs, we will also target those in the community who see drugs as a profitable ‘commodity’,” Detective Inspector Kate Chambers said.

“When you trade in illicit drugs you place people’s lives at risk for personal financial gain”.
