Safer sharing of roads with vehicles

Another round of funding is up for grabs for projects to help Tasmania's vulnerable road users such as cyclists and pedestrians avoid mishaps involving vehicles.

According to the state government, they accounted for more than 40% of serious casualties in the past five years.

Transport Minister Michael Ferguson is encouraging councils to apply for a share of the money with their proposals.

"$1 million provided by the Liberal government specifically for road safety treatments that are about supporting pedestrians and cyclists and motorcyclists, who frankly are vulnerable road users."
