If you spent any part of the 1990s glued to a television screen, the phrase “slow-motion running” likely triggers a very specific mental image. Yes, the iconic red swimsuits are officially back in production. FOX has teamed up with Arrow alumnus Stephen Amell to give us our very first look at the highly anticipated Baywatch reboot, and it seems the next generation of lifeguards is trading simple beach rescues for a heavy dose of family drama.
Amell took to social media to debut a brief 15-second teaser clip, playfully captioning it, “I dream in slow motion.” Whilst the footage is short, it gives audiences exactly what they want: sun-drenched beach vistas and glimpses of the new-look squad sporting the famous crimson swimwear.

The Buchannon Legacy Continues
For those wondering how this new iteration connects to the sun-soaked lore of the original series, the creators have gone down the legacy route. Stephen Amell steps into the sandy footprints of Hobie Buchannon, the once-wild child originally played by Jeremy Jackson.
Fast forward to the present day, and Hobie is no longer just the kid getting into trouble on the pier. He is now a full-fledged Baywatch captain, fiercely maintaining the high standards set by his legendary father, Mitch Buchannon (immortalised by David Hasselhoff).
However, the shoreline is about to get rocky. The central plot kicks off when Charlie, played by Jessica Belkin, turns up on Hobie’s doorstep. She is the daughter he never actually knew existed, and she has arrived with a singular focus: to join the family business, don the red suit, and protect the California coast directly alongside her newfound father.
Fresh Faces and Nostalgic Returns
The teaser also gives us a rapid-fire introduction to the fresh ensemble cast sharing the sand with Amell. High-profile personalities like Brooks Nader (playing Selene) and collegiate gymnastics star turned internet sensation Livvy Dunne (making her acting debut as Grace) feature prominently in the snippet.
The wider cast list reads like a contemporary talent index, featuring Shay Mitchell as Trina, Hassie Harrison as Nat, Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad, and social media heavyweight Noah Beck as Luke.
But the creators know that a true reboot needs a bridge to the past. Viewers can look forward to genuine nostalgia hits, with original series veterans David Chokachi and Erika Eleniak confirmed to reprise their beloved roles as Cody Madison and Shauni McClain.
What to Expect in the New Era
With blockbuster filmmaker McG directing the series premiere and television veteran Matt Nix (Burn Notice) driving the ship as showrunner, the creative team aims to balance classic action with modern, serialized storytelling.
Will the new series capture the global magic that once made the original the most-watched show on earth? Only time will tell, but the blend of high-stakes beach rescues, unexpected family dynamics, and classic slow-motion walks suggests they are aiming for a massive crowd-pleaser. The new Baywatch is expected to hit television screens in January.
