Hobart’s new Lime bikes: where you can ride, park and pay:
Hobart will be Lime’s first Tasmanian city as 350+ Lime e-bikes hit Hobart’s streets from the 2nd of September.

We want to unlock cleaner, easier and more enjoyable trips between the CBD, and some of Hobart’s most visited destinations, such as Sandy Bay’s university precinct, Battery Point, and the Salamanca waterfront.”

The service is intended to complement existing public transport and link the CBD with Sandy Bay’s university precinct, Battery Point and the Salamanca waterfront.
Parking was a common complaint of the old scheme. Lime says it will use in-app tutorials, on-screen parking guidance and designated bays on key CBD streets including Macquarie, Harrington, Argyle, Bathurst and Melville streets. The previous service had drawn years of complaints about dumped scooters, blocked footpaths and poor rider behaviour. Council later switched to an e-bike-only model and put the contract out to tender.
Will Peters says:
“Promoting safe riding and responsible parking is at the heart of how Lime operates. We’ll be using in‑app riding tutorials and reminders, clear parking guidance, and designated parking bays along key CBD streets, including Macquarie, Harrington, Argyle, Bathurst and Melville Streets, together with capped speed in line with local restrictions and safety guidance.”
“To encourage the right behaviour in busy parts of Hobart, we’ve also set up geofenced No Ride Zones across key locations in the CBD, including sections of Liverpool, Murray and Elizabeth Streets. No Parking Zones will be in force around Salamanca from Thursday to Saturday to support the set up of Salamanca Market, as well as in parts of Battery Point and Sandy Bay. Slow Speed Zones will operate along Macquarie Street and within St David’s Park.”
Lime will also offer LimePrime for $4.99 a month. Members pay $2.75 for trips of up to 20 minutes ($0.30 per extra minute after that), $1.50 for rides of five minutes or less, plus unlimited free unlocks and 30-minute reservations. Group riders on the same trip get the same pricing.
A launch event will be held at Mawson Place Concourse on the 5th of September from 10am to 12pm, with staff on hand to show new riders how to use the bikes.
