Disgraced former Tasmanian Government Minister and Braddon MP Adam Brooks has pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of tax evasion.

Brooks appeared in the Devonport Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, pleading not guilty to four counts of failing to comply with a requirement under Federal taxation laws.

The charges allege Brooks had failed to file income tax returns between 2018 and 2021.

North-West business Rapid Fleet Management, of which Brooks is the sole director, has also been charged with failing to file tax assessments between 2015 and 2021 and failing to provide quarterly GST Business Activity statements between 2017 and 2021.

The company, through Brooks’ lawyer, has also pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Brooks was a Liberal MP for Braddon from 2010 to 2019 and a former Mining Minister, resigning following a highly critical Integrity Commission report into his use of his mining company’s E-mail.

He ran for Braddon again in the 2021 State Election and won his seat back, only to sensationally resign a day later after being charged by Queensland Police for firearms offences and dealing with false documents.

A hearing date for the taxation offences has been set down for August 9th.
